Nike SB’s site refers to this time as the “Striped” era thanks to the rainbox colored quickstrike boxes from this time. To me though, this is the Purple Box era. We got some modern legend-style releases from this time such as the Chunky Dunkys, Travis Scotts and Grateful Deads. I remember the releases for those three pairs being crazy!
The resurgence of Nike SB in terms of hype began around the end of the Teal Box era, and continued to ramp up during this time.
Nike SB had pretty much standardized the ankle padding and shape by this time, and many of the GRs (general releases) began to have that signature stiffly padded feel.
While this time period represented the modern pinnacle of SB hype, the popularity of the SB Dunk is still going strong partially from the momentum gained during this time.
Nike SB came in the purple boxes from 1/2020 – 3/2023

The Nike SB Dunk Low x Dashawn Jordan “Diamondbacks” is a collaboration with Dashawn Jordan, an X Games gold-medalist skateboarder from Arizona. The colorway draws inspiration from the early-2000s palette of the Arizona Diamondbacks, specifically referencing the team’s 2001 World Series “Copperhead” fitted cap that featured a distinctive snakeskin brim. The result is a bold Nike SB Dunk Low skate shoe that blends baseball nostalgia with skate culture aesthetics.

The Nike SB Dunk Low Muni Fast Pass pays tribute to the San Francisco Muni’s iconic monthly transit cards once used across San Francisco. These passes were a staple for locals (and especially for skaters) throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The sneaker recreates the colorful design language of the passes, and while more colorways based on different Muni card designs are reportedly on the way, this is the first pair to release.
