These were mistakenly believed to be a Bodega collab, but as it turns out, Bodega merely led the release before these trickled into other boutiques and Saucony’s website.

According to Bodega, this sneaker was supposed to release around 1999/2000 but never did. So while this is technically a retro, the original was never released. The shoe features some transparent mesh parts which would make it a bit ahead of its time if it truly was designed for the year 2000. These also are somewhat slimmed down from the bulky look that had taken over towards the end of the 90s. The kicks come in what is (I think) a special colored purple and blue box. They also ship with white laces with little shiny speckles.

While not a lot of people may be paying attention to this particular release, I think it’s a definite sleeper and I’m glad to add these quirky bois to the collection!

How Are The Materials?

As far as components, we get the basic felt suede, regular mesh and a clear plastic-like mesh. This shoe has a retro runner quality of materials, so do not expect buttery premium suedes and leathers. The suede, while typical for this type of release, does have a smoothness to it that does make it still exude a bit of quality. These also feature a 3M strip towards the rear of the shoe. Overall a lot more of the attention went into the paneling and construction on the shoe as opposed to the actual material choice, so for what these are, the materials are satisfactory.

How Do They Fit?

I went with my typical Saucony size of 9.5 on these Saucony Grid Azura 2000 and these fit comfortably at that size. For comparison, I wear a 10 in most Nikes. I find this shoe to be quite breathable thanks to the loads of mesh on the sneaker. In short we get the typical comfort level that can be expected from Saucony, which is to say, above average for a retro runner!
