Nike SB Dunk Low Porcelain Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The last pair of GR dunk lows I picked up were the Pine Greens. Stepping it up to a premium GR this time, the latest pickup are these Nike SB Dunk Low Porcelain.

The shoes get their nickname from the cracked look of the upper.

As the shoe gets worn, the upper is designed to slowly chip off resembling a chipped piece of porcelain, and revealing a blue layer underneath. A few pics that I’ve seen online of people using chemicals to preemptively wear off the upper have not yielded the best results, so for my pair I’ll be letting the process occur naturally. These ship with white and blue sets of laces but besides that, these don’t have any other special features.

Another GR here that has been selling out instantly as soon as they release on various skate shop sites. I definitely think these are worth it though, as each pair will over time develop its own chipped look and flavor, and I’m glad to have these!

How Are The Materials?

I was hesitant on these because I thought they’d be stiff and hard as bricks, however, the upper actually has a smooth texture and doesn’t seem that tough at all. I’m guessing the material is a smooth synthetic leather but it’s so unusual I can’t say for sure. Still, these are definitely going to crease fast and they will chip where they crease, making it a bit more obvious. This can be a good thing as it can add character to the shoe. But purely looking at these from a materials standpoint, I’m not finding anything to really get excited for or complain about.

How Do They Fit?

These Nike SB Dunk Low Porcelain are comfy at a half size up. Similar to other new SB’s, they’re somewhat stiff and narrow at first, so either get true size and break them in, or bypass the pain and half size up. I find that at the larger size, while they fit a little big, the discomfort is nonexistent and these are very comfy right out of the box with little to no break in.
