Nike SB Dunk Low Light Carbon Review

Updated October 9, 2024 by Anthony

The Nike SB Dunk Low “Light Carbon” is the first SB Dunk I’ve added to my collection in quite some time. In fact, it’s been a few months since I last copped a new pair, but I managed to snag these through the SNKRS app.

This pair does not, to my knowledge, have some kind of collab or other inspiration tied to it. It gets it’s nickname from the colorway.

I could tell by looking at online photos that the suede would have a nice texture to it, and I love the colors utilized on the upper. So, I figured I would shoot my shot when these dropped on SNKRS, and I was able to secure a pair on release day. If I had one nitpick, it’s that the outsole color could have either been black or matched the upper in some way. This would have looked a tad better in my opinion, but the lighter grey on the sole was not enough to deter me from purchasing and rocking these!

This pair comes from the Purple Box series. It includes two sets of laces: a bluish-grey with tan aglets that complements the upper and a lighter grey with orangish-brown aglets that matches the outsole.

Materials

These keep it fairly straightforward as far as composition, pretty much just suede. As expected, we get a nice, soft suede all throughout the upper.

Is it the most premium suede I’ve ever seen on a shoe? No.

Is it good for a General Release pair of SB Dunks? In my opinion, yes, very good! Especially at the $115 price point, which on a non-SB Dunk will get you plasticky, cheap feeling leather.

Fit & Comfort

As with most SB Dunks, the fit can feel a little tight if you go true to size, mainly due to the padded upper, especially the tongue. I suggest going up half a size for a more comfortable fit, though sticking with your normal size could work after a bit of break-in time. In my experience, going half a size up results in a fit that’s a touch roomier, but in a good way.

To be fair, the suede uppers used here are softer than typical leather, so the break-in period is shorter, offering better comfort right from the start.

Personally, I don’t notice the Zoom Air cushioning much when wearing these casually. Instead, they provide more solid support for standing or walking around, making them comfortable enough for everyday wear.

If these are sold out in skate shops or online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
