Nike SB Dunk Low Big Money Savings Review

Updated April 23, 2024 by Anthony

The Nike SB Dunk Low Big Money Savings are the first SB Dunk I’ve picked up in several months. Actually, it’s been over a year since I’ve added a new pair, but I was able to grab this pair on the SNKRS app. What luck! Kind of the opposite of “savings”, but what can you do?

This pair is based on stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond in combination with getting things on sale! We get patterns and textures reminiscent of those “Live, Laugh, Love” signs they sell in those types of stores as well as a long “receipt” on the inside tongue label.

Personally, I think the mix of textures and patterns on the shoe is very cool, and speaks to why Nike SB Dunks are special for collectors. Inspiration is manifested on all the different panels of the sneaker.

These are a Purple Box release. The included laces are all in a yarn-like rope style. We get tan, light blue and red options.

Features on the sneaker include the design on the side panel (reminds me of patterns I’ve seen on upholstery) and flowery graphics on the insole. We also get the tear-off receipt on the inside that mentions 58 cool points being awarded. Finally I’m cool, according to my shoes!

Materials

The materials here are more interesting than high quality, although they are not bad quality either. We don’t get super soft suede on the overlays but there is some nice, thick suede being used. The suede has a roughed up sort of look to it which feels very intentional when paired with the cracked leather swoosh.

There’s a burlap-like textile on the toebox, the tongue is ribbed and the ankle liner is quilted. All of these materials help tie the sneaker theme together. While the textures might not be the butteriest, they do help evoke the Live, Laugh, Love inspiration which definitely awards some more cool points to the shoe.

Fit & Comfort

Like most SB Dunks, the fit might be a bit snug at true to size. This is thanks to the padded uppers, particularly the tongue. I recommend going a half size up on these, although true to size could still work with enough break-in time. At a half size up, I find the fit to actually be on the slightly roomy side – in a good way. Not enough for me to go down in size, but enough to reduce break-in time to zero.

I’m in the camp of not really feeling Zoom Air that much just using the shoe casually, so I can’t say that these feel particularly cushioned underfoot. I get more of a solid support here when standing or walking around normally. The shoes are still comfortable on a basic level for just hanging out.

If these are sold out in skate shops or online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
