Adidas Tubular Runner Core Black

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The Adidas Tubular was originally a running shoe from the 90s, but this “Runner” version that released in the 2010s is a revamped lifestyle shoe with elements of the Y-3 Qasa and ZX Flux. This was one of the first colorways to drop.

Adidas Tubular Runner Core Black

The 2010s were definitely the era of the sock-shoe hype, and these sneakers are right on time with that look. I like these for similar reasons as the ZX8000 – namely the look, shape and aesthetic

These have neoprene uppers with suede and leather overlays. The quality here is definitely nothing special. This sneaker is clearly built more for aesthetic than overall material quality.

As far as fit, these work at true to size. The stretchy upper sits on top of the the trademark tubular outsole, supposedly modeled after the inner tubes in tires. These are comfortable enough, although other models may provide a more cushy ride than these. The feel underfoot is more on the solid side.

This pair comes with black oval laces.
