Adidas ZX 8000 Boost Black Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The original ZX 8000 dropped in 1988 and has been retro’d many times since. Since their initial release, technology has improved and fashion sensibilities have changed, so for those trying to switch it up to something more modern, an updated version is available with the Adidas ZX 8000 Boost.

I grabbed these during a phase where I was buying all types of different Boost pairs, playing catch up to a tech that had been starting to grow in popularity at the time.

The ZX 8000 Boost definitely has that street ninja vibe inspired by more high-end Adidas Y-3 collabs while still being relatively easy on the pocketbook. This particular pair ships with black laces.

It did gain a bit of notoriety for squeaking while walking. While I didn’t personally experience this, it is something many others spoke on with regards to the shoe.

As far as the fit, these have a removable boost insole and are made out of comfortable neoprene and stitched reflective uppers with suede eyestays and leather on the rear of the shoe. I find the feeling underfoot to have noticeable boost comfort, but not to the degree of the Ultraboost.
