Vans Era Pro 50th Anniversary Review

Updated November 4, 2016 by Anthony

Mismatched kicks? Normally I’d associate that with a kid’s shoe, but the Vans Era Pro 50th Anniversary accomplishes it in a more “adult” way.

Vans opened their first store in 1966, and now, 50 years later, a whole pack has released celebrating the company’s start! The store initially sold custom made shoes. This particular pair comes in an old school looking box with “custom made” verbiage on it. The box and insole both feature a “50 years” graphic.

Aside from the colorway and the anniversary graphics, the shoe is a fairly straightforward pair of Era Pros. This particular model came out in 1976. I’d put it as my second favorite model in terms of looks, right after the Sk8 hi.

How Are The Materials?

These are made out of suede. I’d say the quality is a slight cut above complete sandpaper, but definitely not buttery or lush. Vans are a no frills type of shoe anyway. These are more about the colorway and the 50th anniversary tribute than having premium materials.

How Do They Fit?

The Vans Era Pro 50th Anniversary fit true to size and are fairly comfortable. I find the Era Pros to be comfier out of the gate than Authentics. The shoes appear to be more padded overall, and this leads to increased comfort. Skaters might prefer it the other way around, but for casual wear the Vans that have added padding are going to be a better look.

Dollar for dollar, it’s tough to find a better value than Vans. When I’m short on funds but need to scratch that “cop something” itch, Vans make an easy target for a clean add to the collection.
