The 2017 US Open of Surfing has their own shoe! These Vans Authentic US Open are part of a pack celebrating the event.
These come in a special surfing themed box with a special graphic on the tongue tag and insole. The shoe is off-white, white and navy. Even the checkers are navy. That said, an easy look for these is khakis, but the shoe could be worn with almost any shade of pants and look great. I would keep the upper simple, Vans Authentics look the best combined with clean basic looks like shorts and a t-shirt.
These are your standard canvas Authentics. Nothing too special about the materials on these beyond what you would expect. The construction seems solid and the canvas is of a medium thickness – not super soft but not hard and stiff either.
How Do They Fit?
The Vans Authentic US Open fit true to size. These have a decent level of comfort – canvas Vans are a basic shoe and need some break in to realize their true potential. After several wears, these can become the most comfortable pair of kicks in a collection. Initially, you might want to wear a bandaid on the back of your ankle to prevent heel rub. That’s what I typically do until the kicks break in.
The way this shoe is presented, it seems like the US Open of Surfing is actually a Vans event. In any case, there’s nothing wrong with adding some Vans to a collection, and I recommend these to anyone that wants to step up their Authentic checker game.
