Nike SB Dunk Low Navy Gum Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The Flax SBs were my last SB dunk, and these Nike SB Dunk Low Navy Gum are another pair that didn’t release in the US!

I had to grab these and I’m glad I did, as these are an orange label release. That usually means nicer quality and skateshop-exclusive!

Once I saw these were coming out, I had to get them! There isn’t going to be a US release, but luckily the resale on this particular pair isn’t too bad for now, so I figured I’d jump on these while I could.

These came in the brown orange label Nike SB box and include navy and black SB laces with orange aglets displaying the Nike SB logo in white. The sneaker is relatively simple as is the case with many orange label drops and so it doesn’t come with a lot of extras.

How Are The Materials?

I really can’t tell what this material is! I think overall it is suede, but the grain is so short its almost more of a nubuck. What’s weird though is it is so soft, while typically nubuck is a little more rugged. I can’t believe how soft the upper is! Since the hair is nonexistent on this suede, there’s no backstroke but it feels like there should be. That’s how soft it is! The only other material besides this and the mesh tongue is the leather swoosh. The leather used is thick and seems nice although the finish in my opinion is overly tumbled. Sometimes this makes it too obvious that it’s a finish rather than the actual leather grain. Regardless, all in all I really like the material quality on this sneaker. Texturally it reminds me of the shadow j-packs or the Oski dunk highs.

How Do They Fit?

The Nike SB Dunk Low Navy Gum fit snug as expected. Going a half size up allows for additional comfort and cuts down on break-in time. I’ll have to break these in a bit or use the shoe stretcher to give my pinkies a little breathing room. Still, if I’m looking for all-day comfort I’ll probably go with a runner instead. These are mostly to be worn for a few hours max for style and looks rather than being super comfy.
