The last dunk I reviewed was the Grateful Dead Green Bears, which were based off of a well-known band. For a manga/anime twist, we get these Nike SB Dunk High Doraemon.
These are based off of the manga/anime property starring a robot cat from the future that time travels back in time and has a 4D pocket full of useful/magical items. The manga released in the 1970s and the anime in the 1980s.
These are an orange label and thus come in the newer orange label box with the swoosh on the lid. They ship with sets of red and white SB laces. Other than that, there’s nothing that really stands out about these (surprisingly) except for the stash pocket behind the tongue, a callout to the character’s 4D pocket.
I don’t know too much about the actual Doraemon anime and manga beyond what I was able to research, but I do enjoy these dunks. They released randomly at my local skate shop and apparently were in limited supply, but I can’t speak to the overall rarity of these. If you enjoy dunk highs and you find these for retail, definitely swoop them up as there don’t appear to be that many around!
How Are The Materials?
These feature some fairly decent materials. We get a decent level of thick suede, which feels good although not exactly buttery. There is also some smooth leather on the swoosh as well as some white leather on the panels with a heavily tumbled finish. Overall while the materials are not amazing compared to other premium pairs out there, they are definitely better than a GR SB dunk. I definitely rate the quality as above average for these.
How Do They Fit?
These Nike SB Dunk High Doraemon fit like a modern SB, which for me entails going a half size up. This gives additional comfort and room and minimizes break-in and pinky rub. I might have been able to eventually break in a true to size pair, but I prefer to skip that and just go the half size up. These are fairly comfortable, providing a similar level of cushion to any other SB dunk.
