Nike SB has done music collabs with hip hop acts before such as De La Soul. The Nike Dunk SB High Doom is a highly sought after joint effort with hip hop artist MF Doom.
The shoe released in 2007 and features artwork from the emcees 2004 album “Mm.. Food” both on the clear outsole and on the insole. Other special features include “DOOM” embroidery on the outer wing flaps and a face mask graphic on the tongue tag (the artist is known to wear a Dr Doom mask in public). These also come with SPR VLN lace locks as Doom often refers to himself as the “Super Villain”.
One cool thing about this shoe is the black and grey palette, which allows for almost any lace swap to look good and almost any outfit to work with shoe. I personally went with a camo Bape longsleeve layered over an elongated tee with some black jeans. I’ve seen people throw neon laces in these and make a wacky outfit out of that, or add in the spare red flat laces for a more traditional look. Either way, this is one of the easiest SB dunks to work with in terms of outfits.
These are a black box release but also saw a rerelease in a gold box. Whichever one you grab is worth it. These shoes are a classic example of a Nike SB collab done right and I highly recommend tracking down and buying a pair of these if it is within your means.
Materials
These appear deceptively simple. The materials are actually really dope! The grey uppers are a synthetic ostrich leather while the black parts and area by the ankle are a very smooth short haired suede. The tongue has a metallic look to it, and 3M covers all the piping on the shoe. One of the reasons the shoe is still so popular today has to do with how nice the quality is, in addition to the theme and colorway.
Fit
The Nike Dunk SB High Doom fits true to size and is very comfortable. The shoe is a premium release and has none of the stiffness that accompanies modern dunks. The 3M piping does affect the shape of the toebox, but since this shoe uses the older dunk tooling, the thick border between the ostrich leather and suede doesn’t negatively impact the look of the shoe.
