With all my recent purchases of newer SBs, sometimes the classics can get lost in the mix. These Nike Dunk High SB Mr Todd are a good example of this, as I filmed a pickup video like 2 years ago and just now realized I need to do a full review.
The shoe gets its name from designer and frequent Nike SB collaborator Todd Bratrud and is based off of a woman wearing short denim shorts. The spare laces included are pink and this is a gold box quickstrike release.
Ordinarily, brown kicks aren’t really my thing, but the light blue, white and pink accents on these open up the shoe to a few looks. My favorite is light or medium wash denim with a light colored top. These also can work with khaki colored denim thanks to the shade of brown used combined with the blue and white. Black or grey pants might be a bit more of a stretch though. Overall these aren’t the most versatile shoe, and your confidence level will go a long way towards pulling these off.
This was a shoe that I had, sold, and had to re-buy again. I’m surprised it’s taken me this long to remember to do a review on them! Maybe one day I might sell them again as they are not a “must have” for me, but they do exemplify the quirkiness that makes some SB’s so great and so I will definitely try to hold onto these for as long as possible!
How Are The Materials?
The materials on these are very good! Brown buttery suede covers the upper. Additionally, we get a sturdy denim around the heel and ankle and patent leather on the swoosh. I think the materials are pretty much the standout element of the shoe. SB heads that like the older dunks for the material quality will not be disappointed in these!
How Do They Fit?
These Nike Dunk High SB Mr Todd fit best at true to size. That said, the shape and flexibility of these older SBs actually enables some wiggle room, so if I wanted to go down a half size I probably could. These are also a lot more comfy right out of the box; no break-in time required. The downside is that these are going to show their wear faster thanks to the less stiff uppers.
