The Nike Air Max 90 Neon release is part of a bunch of Air Max 95 Neon-related send-ups that Nike is putting out alongside the release of the 2026 Neon 95s.
Originally launched in 1990 and designed by Tinker Hatfield as the Air Max III, the Air Max 90 is one of Nike’s most beloved runners to this day. This version takes the look of the AM95 Neon and tries to closely apply it to the blocking and overall colorway of the Air Max 90, one of my personal favorite models. Additionally, we get a mini swoosh on the u-throat, which helps designate these as “special“.
Being one of my faves, I had to get these. I still have 2020 Air Max 95 Neons, so I prioritized these on SNKRS when they dropped alongside the 2026 Neon 95 retro. I have a few neon or volt based colorways on various pairs, however I love how it looks in this configuration on this sneaker and knew the first time I saw these that I would need to add them to my Air Max 90 collection. These come in the standard orange Nike box and include white flat laces.
Materials
Here we get a leather mudguard that kind of has a nubuck texture to it, suede overlays and mesh underlays. The quality here is decent, but nothing too crazy. We are at around the price point for a standard pair of AM90s at retail here, so I wasn’t expecting premium textures. However, for what these are, the construction and quality seems solid enough to justify a retail purchase.
Fit & Comfort
In my experience, these fit true to size and are very comfortable to wear. The Air Max 90 has always been one of my favorite retro Air Max designs, and this pair delivers the classic feel you’d expect from a 90—supportive, stable, and easy to keep on all day, even with the older cushioning technology. If you already enjoy the way Air Max 90s typically fit and perform, this pair keeps that same reliable comfort while adding a slightly more refined presentation.
