The Spruce are not the last OG retro AM90 I was going to get. These Nike Air Max 90 Eggplant (AKA Air Max III Eggplant) are yet another throwback from Nike way back to the earliest days of the model.
Air Max III Eggplant
Similar to the other AMIII colorways, these come in a skinny red and grey Nike box. The box features a throwback boxtag on one side and the current tag on the other. They come with an orange rubbery plastic hangtag, magenta anatomical arch supports and plain flat white laces. These feature a retro size tag on the inside of the tongue and have the size indicated inside the ankle.
I was initially going to pass on the women’s OG colorways, but after seeing them on sale I had to grab them to complete the set. They may be women’s colorways, but they are not just for female fans of the model. Seeing how these are made up to a Men’s size 15 (Women’s 16.5), I can tell these are for the collectors.
How Are The Materials?
There’s nothing crazy going on here, its the same recraft level of quality of the other AM3 retros. The upper is mostly smooth leather and mesh with the felt swoosh. The materials feel soft and better than non-recraft AM90s, but the shoe isn’t what I would call a “materials” sneaker overall. This shoe exists purely to evoke that retro 1990 vibe and the materials are adequate for this function.
How Do They Fit?
I went true to size for these Nike Air Max 90 Eggplant with a Women’s 11.5 in these, which is the equivalent of a Men’s size 10. I get a 10 in most Nikes and that’s what I got here. These are very comfortable, especially for longer walks. According to Nike’s website, these have an encapsulated air unit in the front of the shoe in addition to the bubble in back.
