The New Balance 2002R Pastel Blue continues the model’s streak of clean, wearable colorways — this time in a soft blue base accented with subtle hints of pink and green. It’s a Foot Locker exclusive release that fits perfectly into the 2002R’s lifestyle aesthetic: lowkey, versatile, and effortlessly stylish.
The 2002R carries a bit of history behind it — originally debuting in 2010 as a premium runner before being reworked in 2020 with modern cushioning from the 860v2. The mix of retro looks and updated comfort turned it into one of New Balance’s biggest lifestyle hits in recent years. (I go over the full backstory in more detail here.)
I picked up this “Pastel Blue” pair during a Foot Locker sale for about $65 shipped, and at that price, it was a no-brainer. The soft blue base with those light pink accents feels fresh without being too loud — just the kind of subtle pop that keeps me coming back to this model. It’s a calm yet eye-catching combo, and the comfort level seals the deal.
The pair comes in the standard dark grey New Balance box that’s typical for their newer models and includes matching offwhite (sail) laces to round out the look.
Materials
The build here is your standard 2002R setup: suede and mesh across the upper with a bit of leather trim. The materials feel solid and well put together — not Made in USA level, but for a GR at this price point, it’s well above average. And for the discount I grabbed them at, they’re an absolute steal.
Fit & Comfort
Fit is true to size with a standard width. Comfort is great thanks to the retro 860v2 tooling. It’s soft yet supportive and makes the 2002R one of the easiest sneakers to wear casually. Whether you’re walking around all day or just running errands, they deliver reliable comfort and clean looks every time.
If these are sold out at different stores online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
