If you’re used to seeing Gel Sagas from recent years, these Footpatrol x Asics Gel Saga Anime/Gundam might look a little odd around the midsole area.
Turns out, the pairs from a couple years ago are actually Gel Saga 2s and these more recent releases are the true OG Gel Saga model. This particular pair is based off of Anime and is of course a collab between Footpatrol and Asics Tiger. The shoe features a number of bits of branding around the shoe on the insole, lacestay, tongue tag, side, back, box and lacetips.
At the end of the day, this is basically a pale grey and white sneaker with some blue hits, so a grey or white top will be a good look with these. As for pants, anything from light to dark wash or black denim/joggers can work. Overall it should be easy to pull together an outfit with this mostly neutral-toned shoe.
With pics online, I was “meh” on these, but I decided to take a chance and I’m pleasantly surprised by the sneaker! This is one of those kicks that needs to be held in hand to really see all the different features and details included on the shoe. If you’re looking for a largely slept on collab, now’s the time to pick these up before people catch on!
How Are The Materials?
The materials are ok on these. They’re definitely going with a vintage vibe on the tennis ball felt suede, but it works on here and seems softer than other shoes with this type of texture. Also those Asics stripes are shiny as heck! I think overall the materials are not the most exciting aspect of the shoe, but they get the job done.
How Do They Fit?
These Footpatrol x Asics Gel Saga Anime fit great at true to size. The comfort is basically at the level of many Asics retro models. It’s no boost, but it does the trick for a nice comfy retro runner. I did complete a slight reshape on these. The toebox looked ok, but the extra slope just kicks it up a notch!
