These Vans Half Cab Surplus definitely give off a surplus goods feel. The olive portions of the uppers are a durable canvas while the rest of the shoes are suede. The kicks are capped off with some waxed rope laces to finish the look.

So, what’s the deal with the sneaker collection (Seinfeld Voice)? Right around 2008, I’d just lost a lot of weight and was in need of an entirely new wardrobe. I was in the process of buying newer, smaller clothes and the time came for a new pair of shoes. Rather than pick some ordinary pair like I normally would, I opted for a more interesting and unique looking pair. The response from others was so strong and positive that I decided to look more into the different kinds of cool sneakers and discovered that collecting sneakers is similar to collecting comics, baseball cards, or any other of the numerous hobbies I had when I was a kid! I’ve been into sneakers ever since – to the extent that I even got an article written about me in the paper! I’ve also been collector of the month in Solecollector Magazine (issue #47)!
I built up a lot of my collection looking for deals on slept-on pairs! I also post deals I find on this very site when I have time.
As for the photography aspect, check out any Sneaker related websites (there are many), and you will typically find posts filled with awesome, artsy footwear shots. I like learning about cameras and taking interesting shots, and it turns out there are actually sites online where you can get recognized for both your collection and photography skills at the same time! You can check out some of my most recent shots below. If you’re curious, I currently shoot with a Nikon D3100 (Amazon link) and mostly use a 50mm lens.
My eBay account is where I list my current sneakers available for sale (if I happen to be selling any).
Here are some quick links to different categories of sneakers:

Here we have your basic ZX Flux fare, with a green-tinted neoprene mesh base underneath a mostly orange and black Hawaiian print with black accents. I’m guessing the N in NPS stands for neoprene. The look on this pair is capped off with the black laces and yellow Adidas torsion dubre. These came with spare bluish green laces to match the tint of the shoe’s upper.

This pair is from before I really started doing reviews, but here it is! The Asics GL3 Miami Vice. There was this pair and a black pair that dropped, now lost to the annals of time. I’m hoping the GL3 can have the resurgence it had from a few years back yet again, so we can get colorways and ideas/themes like these Miami Vices!
