Originally a red-overlayed Japan-exclusive from 2004, a new Urawa-themed Air Max 1 made its long-awaited return in 2023. Kind of like the first release was a home jersey colorway and this one is the away. I’d wanted these when they dropped but never pulled the trigger — fast forward to 2025, and Nike surprise restocked them on their site and knocked the price down. No brainer.

Here’s a collection of Air Max 1 reviews. On any given day I might say that the Air Max 1 is my favorite Air Max. Sometimes even more so than my beloved Air Max 90s!
The sneaker originally released in 1987. The designer Tinker Hatfield took inspiration from a building in Paris. While Nike Air existed, the open look of the Parisian building gave rise to the visible Air Unit in the AM1.
Visible air was a big deal back then, and groundbreaking for the time. These days, many pairs of Nikes sport an Air Bubble that can be seen from the outside, but the 1 was the first one to do it!
I still look for Air Max 1 releases today, as they tend to be the most “collectible” of AM models out there.

Nike Air Max 1 Olympic Review
The Nike Air Max 1 Olympic brings a clean, patriotic look with a standout metallic gold Swoosh, evocative of a gold Olympic medal. While the name comes from the colorway, this isn’t a direct reissue of any previous Olympic-themed AM1. The mix of obsidian and white keeps things classic, while subtle red hits on the branding and top eyelets add a little extra flair.

The Nike Air Max 1 ’86 Cosmic Clay sticks to a simple formula, embracing the classic Big Bubble silhouette without any elaborate backstory. Unlike the BRS Powerwall pair, these aren’t tied to Nike’s heritage. Instead, they’re all about that striking orange hue—hence the “Cosmic Clay” name.

The Nike Air Max 1 Evergreen is a clean and classic take on the Air Max 1 silhouette. Originally released in 2020, this colorway quickly became a bit of a hassle to grab, but fast forward five years, and I finally scooped a pair on discount. Safe to say, patience paid off.

The Nike Air Max 1 ’86 BRS Powerwall takes a beloved, hard-to-get colorway from the 2006 Powerwall series and gives it a modern twist on the Big Bubble silhouette. The original design was a tribute to Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS), Nike’s humble beginnings, and while some purists might prefer a straight-up retro, this updated version stands on its own with fresh details.

The Nike Air Max 1 HUF in Pear is a slick throwback to a cult classic. Originally released as a hyperstrike in 2004, this colorway returns in 2024 alongside bold orange and pink versions—but there’s something about this grey and pear green combo that just hits different. It’s a timeless pairing, especially if you’re a fan of the Air Max 1.
