Air Jordan 4

This is an archive of all the Air Jordan 4 reviews and informational articles answering various questions about the AJ4.  I’m a big fan of the aesthetics of the model, but the fit, not so much.

Jordan 4s Are Popular

Air Jordan 4s are super popular these days, which is both surprising and expected.

Of all the Jordan retros, it’s funny that the 4 remains one of the top tier models sneakerheads can go after.  On the other hand, there have been periods of time where the AJ4 went largely ignored as colorways released.

I think the proliferation of collabs and highly profile special releases in recent years have greatly contributed to the desirability of the model.

If you want to get in on the trend, you might want to start with some OG colorways of the Jordan 4.

Sizing and Fit

Overall the Air Jordan 4 fit snug at true to size.  Going up a half size can help minimize break-in time, especially for those with wide feet.

I find the 4 to not be comfortable, especially compared to other Jordan retros like the 3.  Many collectors disagree with me on that, but just as many are in agreement.  Generally speaking though, I don’t find the 4 to be up there in terms of comfort.  I have issues with how the sneaker is paneled internally, and the seams on the inside tend to rub on my pinky toes pretty badly!  If you want to see a full article that goes into this in more details, I’ve written one about my thoughts on the somewhat uncomfortable fit of the AJ4.

Quality

Material and construction quality on the Jordan 4 can vary greatly depending on release.  Some use nice, thick leather, suede or nubuck, while others seem to be produced more cheaply.

I’ve owned some 4s with what feels like fairly decent leather, and others with more of a thin, plastic look and feel.  I think if you’re a fan of the model and buy a lot of the releases, it’s going to be a roll of the dice from drop to drop.  Collabs and limited pairs seem to tip the scales towards higher quality.  Other mass-produced releases are a bit more random as far as how they will come out.

Air Jordan 4 Bred – Black/Red Review

Air Jordan 4 Bred Review

Back in 1989, $110 was a large price to pay for some sneakers. These days, paying over retail is what will happen if you sleep on a release. Luckily, I made sure to cop this retro of the Air Jordan 4 Bred at retail when it dropped in 2012. For those not in the know, “bred” is short for black & red. My pair came in a cement-speckled box with a black top, black laces and a plastic clear/orange Jumpman hangtag. This colorway is literally a classic and I am stoked to be able to own a pair, seeing as any OG pairs are probably unwearable at this point.

Air Jordan 4 Alternate Motorsport Review

Air Jordan 4 Alternate Motorsports WDYWT On Feet

I recently reviewed the MS4s and after seeing photos of these, the Air Jordan 4 Alternate Motorsport were next on the list! Jordan has a motorsports team, so these get their name from that and are a new colorway based on the white pair. Of course, the white is swapped out for black on the alternates.

Air Jordan 4 Motorsport On Feet WDYWT

The Air Jordan 4 Motorsport are basically the white/red Air Jordan 4s with a palette swap of red to blue. Michael Jordan’s Motorsports Team’s 4th anniversary coincided with the release of the Mars 4 in 2006, and members got this shoe in celebration. Since the Mars are basically the white/red 4s with a Spike Lee face towards the rear of the shoe, the original Motorsports release also has this detail. Due to its limited nature, OG Motorsports go for huge aftermarket prices.
