The Asics Gel-Venture 6 Shield x Hidden NY is one of the cleaner Hidden collabs to drop recently, and the “Wasabi” nickname fits perfectly with how fresh this pair looks. I’ve been keeping an eye on the Hidden NY x Asics series, and this colorway instantly stood out with its cool-toned palette and unique detailing.
The Asics Gel-Venture 6 Shield is a weather-resistant update to the original Gel-Venture 6, a budget-friendly trail runner first released in 2017 with a minor refresh in 2019. This collab draws its design cues from Southwestern archaeology and the look of polished gemstones. The metallic turquoise Asics stripes reference traditional turquoise jewelry, while the rest of the shoe features reflective accents, a reflective underlay, multiple Hidden NY hits across the midsole, toe, heel, and left tongue tag, plus a turquoise map graphic on the insole.
I’ve wanted a Hidden NY x Asics pair for a bit, and when these dipped to around $130 shipped at Nice Kicks, that was all the push I needed. The minty turquoise stripes, the reflective elements, and the little Hidden touches all over the shoe make this one of the better shoes they’ve done in my opinion.
The shoe comes in a white co-branded box and arrives with white laces and clear rope laces tipped with silicone-dipped aglets.
Materials
The upper uses white reflective ripstop mesh paired with your typical Asics-style synthetic overlays. No premium suede or leather here, but the construction feels solid and intentionally built. The upper is supposedly water-resistant, which plays into that gorpcore/trail aesthetic – even if few people are actually hiking in a triple-white collab that retailed at $160.
Fit & Comfort
Unlike some other Asics I’ve reviewed recently, this pair has a roomy rather than snug fit at true to size. Underfoot, the rearfoot GEL cushioning sits on tooling with a trail-specific traction pattern, offering strong shock absorption and great grip across different surfaces. The comfort and stability are definitely there thanks to this.
