Asics Gel Kayano Trainer Corydalis Blue Review

Updated May 5, 2018 by Anthony

After selling off my other pairs of this model, I wasn’t sure if I needed it again in my collection. Then, the Asics Gel Kayano Trainer Corydalis Blue went on sale for $50 shipped and made my decision for me!

As mentioned in the past, the Gel-Kayano is named after its designer, and the trainer is a retro of the first Kayanos to drop. This is as opposed to the numbered GK’s still in production, which are more tech runners than retros.

These are actually kind of hard to match up with my current wardrobe. I wind up settling on black pants and a grey hoodie. Light colors probably go the best with these, but an all-light colored outfit is too much in the winter. I think the dark pants set up a nice sharp contrast and a grey top helps it not be too stark.

If you like GLVs but have stayed away from the Kayano because it’s mostly a tech running shoe, definitely look into the Gel-Kayano trainer. These still go for a really low cost online, but the suede on these monotone trainer colorways beats most GR Asics I own!

How Are The Materials?

These materials totally beat the other pairs of Kayanos I had. The suede is nice and soft and is of good quality. It kind of makes me want to get the off-white colored pair, but I know those would look dingy within minutes of wearing. I am definitely surprised and relieved by the materials on these, and materials fiends won’t be disappointed by the suede used.

How Do They Fit?

The Gel Kayano Trainer Corydalis are true to size with the GLV type bootie-fit, thanks to the neoprene tongue. The suede makes these a bit more heavyweight than their less quality counterparts, but not by an extremely noticeable amount. These still have a decent amount of give but I would avoid sizing down unless you knew for sure it was going to be ok. The shape on these is really good, especially on foot. It’s not quite at the GLV level of pointiness but it gets the same basic effect.
