Air Jordan 4 Bred – Black/Red Review

Updated June 15, 2018 by Anthony

Back in 1989, $110 was a large price to pay for some sneakers. These days, paying over retail is what will happen if you sleep on a release. Luckily, I made sure to cop this retro of the Air Jordan 4 Bred at retail when it dropped in 2012. For those not in the know, “bred” is short for black & red. My pair came in a cement-speckled box with a black top, black laces and a plastic clear/orange Jumpman hangtag. This colorway is literally a classic and I am stoked to be able to own a pair, seeing as any OG pairs are probably unwearable at this point.

Although I normally advocate against doing direct color matches, black and red Jordans tend to look great with a black and red outfit. I went with a red Bape hoodie, some darker blue jeans and a white tee for some pop. Frankly, these look great with just jeans and a white tee, so don’t be afraid to mix it up on outfits here.

How Are The Materials?

The material and build quality on these is about on par with other Jordan retro releases that year, meaning not great, but not terrible either. The suede/nubuck is soft if not lush, and the midsoles are showing little cracking after a few wears. Not a material lovers’ dream but not enough to be triggered either.

How Do They Fit?

The Air Jordan 4 Bred fits true to size. I like Jordan 4s for their vintage look and tough construction rather than comfort. To be honest, I’m feeling like Air Jordan 4s are one of the less comfy J’s out there. I’d recommend picking these up if you’re a collector and like how 4s look. The shoes are definitely not a sneaker for those that want something comfy that they can wear all day.
