Adidas Forum 84 Low Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

These adidas Forum 84 Low are a “recrafted” take of sorts on the adidas Forum which originally released in 1984. My latest acquisition is the Team Power Red colorway.

I’m getting increasingly into retro 80s basketball sneakers. For example, the Rivalry Low “French Flag”.

The Forum high was adidas’ top basketball shoe after releasing, replacing the Top Ten as their main hoop shoe. Apparently, even Michael Jordan sported the sneaker during the 1984 Olympic Trials.

The “84” releases sport a “vintaged” look to give it more of a throwback feel. This includes a slightly yellowed midsole to compliment the retro 80s shape. Some versions include the strap while others do not.

How Are The Materials?

The materials on this shoe are going to vary based on colorway, but overall the leathers used are very nice while the suedes used are rough, but thickly cut.

These typically ship in a pull-out style blue and white Adidas box. Besides the typical care tag that come with many Adidas, these also include a small tag that unfolds to show the different technologies employed around the model.

How Do The Adidas Forum 84 Low Fit?

The Forum Low fit very comfortably at true to size with similar cushioning to other Adidas casual retros from the same era.

The Rivalry are comfy to wear for a few hours, and on feet they remind me of a certain category of 80s trainer (i.e. Powerphase, Club C, Ralph Sampson etc). The technology is from the 80s, so there’s nothing fancy about the midsole or cushioning. Still, these hold up as a relatively comfy casual sneaker.

Where To Cop the Adidas Forum 84 Low

You can usually shop Forum Low colorways at Adidas‘ website as well as sneaker boutiques and aftermarket sites.

I waited too long to grab the hightop version of the grey orbit colorway, as most sites had sold out by the time I got around to trying to get some forum 84s. Thus, I’m glad I was able to lock down a low cut version to start my Adidas Forum collection before it too sold out.

The upper on the Grey Orbit pair sports mostly leather which is very soft to the touch and appears to be of good quality. Certain areas show a bit more texturing/grain on the leather while others are more smooth. There is some nylon on the tongue, and the suede stripes on the side are rough and shaggy. There is also some rough suede on the back. Overall the materials seem good for this price point and definitely come together to further the aged look on the sneaker.

This pair is also known as the “candy cane” colorway. I was looking for something a little less subtle than the Grey Orbit pair above. I got these off the Adidas website with a discount code. Under retail for the win!

The mostly leather upper on here is very soft and exudes quality just like the Grey Orbit pair. Matter of fact, this pair is basically the same thing with respect to quality, comfort, fit and color blocking, only with red instead of Grey. I think the hits of red make this pair a bit more exciting overall.
