The South Beach or “Watermelon” is not the last pair of this model that I picked up. These Nike Air Max 90 Essential Blue Recall are another colorway that seemed a bit cleaner on this silhouette than the AM1 version.
The mostly navy and grey upper make these an easy match for almost any pants. Be careful with khaki though, as the wrong shade can clash with the yellow on the shoe. A navy or blue top is an easy way to make a great looking fit with these.
It’s hard to go wrong with a clean pair of Air Max 90s and I think this basic colorway definitely belongs in the collection. If you’re like me and don’t want to flood your runner collection with strictly AM1s, try out some of the AM90 versions of the recent colorways for some variety!
How Are The Materials?
These are some AM Essentials, meaning the materials are ok. Definitely good enough to wear, but nothing to brag about. They are comprised of a basic leather and mesh. The leather is a little stiff at first but can eventually break in and become more supple over time.
How Do They Fit?
These Nike Air Max 90 Essential Blue Recall fit true to size, and have that narrow Air Max fit that Nike is infamous for. You definitely want to go true to size if you’re not used to snug kicks. That said, I find these acceptably comfy at a half size down only because I’ve been wearing smaller kicks for a while now. I found that when I reshaped the toebox on these, the extra stretching gave these some more give and pliability, which increased the comfort.
