I’m no stranger to this model, but the quality has been iffy on general release pairs so it’s not my top choice. The Asics Gel Lyte V Taupe Grey is a pleasant surprise!
This pair appears to have released in a pack with 2 other tonal pairs in black and white. I’m not sure the pack has a name, and these are just called by their colorway.
Obviously these make a great fall shoe as taupe falls right in the middle of grey and brown. Khakis, grey denim, or even a black outfit could work with these. Right now, it is springtime in California so I threw these on with some light wash denim and a white tee and what do you know? It totally worked out! The offwhite midsole and taupe actually make a decent spring/summer shoe! Don’t ask me to explain it, it just works somehow 🙂
I’ve been trying to be careful with picking up tons of random GRs, because a lot of times I’ll buy several of a model I like and wind up wearing them a couple times and then selling. I’m really trying to just pick up kicks that I don’t think I’ll want to sell for a while. Now that I’ve felt the suede on these, I can definitely put these into that category! Highly recommend either this colorway or one of the others from the pack.
Materials
I was really nervous about these. Many times on GLVs the materials look good online but are very poor in person. In this case, the suede is actually butter! I’m not going to say it’s as good as a premium pair of New Balance or even an older SB Dunk, but still, I was relieved at the nice soft overall texture and look of the suede on these.
Fit
The Asics Gel Lyte V Taupe Grey fit true to size and are very comfortable. The toebox shape on this model definitely is in the correct pointy-toe zone. The sock bootie tongue type setup ensures a snug but comfy fit and the suede gives these a bit of give. One day I’ll experiment with going a half size down, but overall true to size seems to be the safest bet.
