I’m a big fan of simple dunk colorways, especially the BTTYS or Be True To Your School series. The Nike SB Dunk High UNLV are one of my must-have SB colorways that pay tribute to the first dunk colorways.
Initially created for college basketball players, this particular shoe is a send up to the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels. The shoe includes a BTTYS anniversary keychain.
UNLV’s work great with either dark or neutral outfits. I’d caution against overmatching the grey and red, but if you are going to pick a color to match, go with grey. Today’s outfit is a grey Supreme crewneck and some light denim. These also work great with black denim.
The older dunk shape and quality really makes these a worthwhile buy. Any of the other BTTYS SB’s from the pink box era are going to be on par with the quality found here. I highly recommend grabbing this shoe or another one from the series if possible. I even have the 1999 retro of this colorway and still find the time to break out this pair anyway!
Materials
The materials on the BTTYS dunks are not as good as other kicks found in the pink box era. That said, they spank most any new Nike shoe in terms of quality. The red parts are a nice smooth suede and the grey parts are a decent quality leather. The simple materials and construction are one of the great things about this series that makes these easy to wear.
Fit
The Nike SB Dunk High UNLV fits true to size and is very comfortable. Older dunks have so much more pliability with the materials and the suede around the toebox adds to this.
