The Air Jordan V Laney was originally released in 2000, and likely a lot of those pairs are no longer wearable. To counter this (and make boatloads of money), Nike released this retro in 2013.
The colorway represents Michael Jordan’s high school in Wilmington, NC. The originals sat on shelves, then eventually sold out and became grails for many.
I like a nice dark wash jean (even black works) in combination with a white or black top. White top and light wash denim works good as well. These great shoes to wear with shorts. The bright colors scream summer, so don’t be afraid to pull out some sweat shorts or bball shorts and a tee or tank when rocking these.
History seems to be repeating itself with the retro, as the high availability of these at release turned off many collectors but prices have been rising. Overall, the 2013 retro is still easily attainable and I highly recommend Jordan 5 fans grabbing a pair if they don’t have this colorway already.
Materials
Just like many other Jordan releases, collectors hated on the materials for these, but they’re actually really good! Nice thick tumbled leather really makes the shoe sturdy and built to last. These shoes definitely feel bulletproof and they even got the oval laces right!
Fit
The Air Jordan V Laney fit true to size for me. They’re a little stiff at first and the shape is not quite the same as the OG’s, especially around the netting and tongue. Once you get past the shape and break-in, these should be fairly comfortable shoes to kick around in, and they definitely have that “tank” feel on foot.
