Nike Air Force 1 Patent Leather Safety Orange Review

Updated April 10, 2026 by Anthony

The Nike Air Force 1 Patent Leather Safety Orange is another bold take on the classic Air Force 1, getting its name directly from the bright, high-visibility orange colorway applied across the upper. Much like other patent leather AF1 releases, this pair leans into a glossy, eye-catching look that turns a classic lifestyle sneaker into something much louder and more statement-driven. These also up the ante with thick white rope laces.

Originally designed in 1982 by Bruce Kilgore, the Nike Air Force 1 was the first basketball shoe to feature Nike Air cushioning, eventually evolving into one of the most iconic sneakers in both streetwear and everyday fashion. This version stands out by adding huge rope laces and swapping traditional leather overlays for patent leather, giving the shoe a shiny, almost liquid-like finish that really amplifies the Safety Orange color.

I’ve liked these patent leather AF1 drops for what they are, simple and loud, and this colorway is no exception. The bright orange isn’t something I’d wear every day, but it’s the kind of pair that works when you want something that stands out a bit. I was able to grab these with a slight discount from Footlocker which helps. Additionally, when I was showing potential pickups to my wife, she especially loved these, so these are wife-approved!

These come in the standard black Air Force 1 box and include oversized thick white rope laces.

Materials

Material-wise, the overlays are built from patent leather, with leather underlays. As expected, this isn’t about soft or premium-feeling materials—instead, it’s more about the visual impact and finish. The build feels solid overall, and for this type of release, the quality is in line with expectations.

Fit & Comfort

Fit is typical Air Force 1 sizing, meaning slightly roomy at true to size. Some people prefer going a half size down depending on foot shape, but I usually stick with my normal size. Underfoot, you get that classic AF1 cushioning setup, which feels a bit chunky by today’s standards but still works fine for casual wear. Not the most advanced comfort out there, but reliable enough for everyday use.

If these are sold out at different stores online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
