The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Olive Flak / Picante Red is positioned as a more “premium” take on the popular Vomero 5 silhouette, with the name coming directly from the earthy Olive Flak base contrasted by Picante Red accents. This colorway leans into a slightly outdoors-inspired look while still keeping the familiar tech-runner aesthetic that’s made the Vomero 5 a staple in Nike’s lifestyle rotation.
The Vomero 5 originally debuted in the early 2010s as a performance-focused running shoe before being brought back in the late 2010s as a lifestyle favorite. Its layered design, visible tech, and Y2K runner appeal helped it find a second life off the track. This Olive Flak / Picante Red pair is considered a “premium” version, featuring some upgraded materials and laces compared to standard releases, giving it a slightly elevated feel.
I’d been wanting to try a pair of Vomero 5s for a while, but no standard colorway had really stood out to me. Going with a “premium” version felt like a good way to finally jump in. These also vaguely remind me of the Hot Punch Spiridon, a colorway I liked but ultimately passed on since I already have a pair of Spiridons in the collection. With the V5 RNRs in rotation, I also wanted to see what the shoe they’re based on actually feels like and whether it truly comes off as more premium. Getting these for around $109 shipped from Sheikh definitely helped make the decision easier.
The sneaker comes in a standard orange Nike box and is equipped with yellowish Olive Flak laces that have a texture and color reminiscent of a hiking boot lace. It’s a small detail, but it fits the overall vibe of the shoe and helps set this pair apart from regular releases.
Materials
Material-wise, this “premium” Vomero 5 adds fuzzy suede accents to the upper, whereas most standard colorways rely almost entirely on synthetic materials. While it’s not top-tier suede by any means, it does give the shoe a noticeably nicer feel and a bit more depth in hand. Overall, it feels like a legitimate upgrade over non-premium pairs, especially when picked up on sale.
Fit & Comfort
Fit is true to size, and comfort is exactly what you’d expect from a Vomero 5. The combination of Cushlon foam and Zoom Air delivers a well-cushioned, responsive ride that definitely feels like a step up from the V5 RNR. I feel like I could wear these all day without issue, though some people do report the shoe feeling narrow, so wide footers may want to proceed with caution. Personally, I didn’t experience any tightness, but it’s something worth keeping in mind.
If these are sold out at different stores online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
