The Nike Air Max 90 Muslin is a premium take on the classic Air Max 90, with this release earning its name directly from the muted muslin/sail colorway.
Originally launched in 1990 as the Air Max III and designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Max 90 remains one of Nike’s most beloved silhouettes. This modern premium version subtly updates the formula with upgraded materials, contrast stitching on the tongue tag and backtab, and a stitched-outline Swoosh that replaces the traditional layered panel—an understated change that gives the shoe a cleaner, more elevated look.
I waited until these dipped to around $110 shipped on Nike’s site before pulling the trigger, and I’m glad I did. I really like the sail-heavy palette with just a hint of orange, which keeps the shoe versatile while still giving it personality. The spare orange laces were a nice surprise, and once I noticed the orange hits on the inward-facing side panels, it all clicked—those small details add just enough pop against the neutral base. This pair feels distinct enough to stand out, even in a collection that already has plenty of Air Max 90s.
These come in the standard orange Nike box and include both sail and orange skinny oval laces, letting you choose between a fully toned-down look or something with a bit more energy.
Materials
This pair features a denim mudguard with frayed edges, giving it a subtle worn-in, lifestyle aesthetic. Elsewhere, we get suede overlays and mesh underlays that feel a step above a standard Air Max 90. The mesh in particular feels kinda like a hemp texture, and the suede has that slightly fuzzy, hairy texture that’s popular right now. We get another smoother suede texture on the backtab, tongue tag, eyelets and u-throat. While nothing here is ultra-luxurious, the shoe feels solidly built and clearly upgraded compared to a regular GR AM90—about what you’d hope for from a premium release.
Fit & Comfort
These fit true to size and are very comfortable in my experience. The Air Max 90 is one of my favorite retro Air Max models, and this pair feels exactly how a 90 should—supportive, stable, and easy to wear all day despite the older cushioning tech. If you already love how Air Max 90s fit and feel, this pair delivers that same comfort with a slightly elevated presentation.
If these are sold out at different stores online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
