Puma Suede x LAAMS Blank Canvas Review

Updated December 22, 2025 by Anthony

The Puma Suede x LAAMS Blank Canvas is a creative collaboration with LAAMS, a Lower East Side NYC staple known for its art-driven approach to retail and collaborations. This pair takes one of Puma’s most recognizable silhouettes and turns it into something interactive and expressive.

I’ve gone over the Puma Suede plenty of times before, but briefly: it launched in 1968 as a basketball warm-up shoe and eventually became a cultural icon across streetwear, hip-hop, and skate scenes. It’s easily my favorite Puma model. The concept behind this LAAMS collaboration is exactly what the name suggests—a blank canvas. The upper is designed to be drawn on, worn down, and customized over time. The tearaway canvas reveals a green suede underlayer, a nod to LAAMS’ frequent use of green and white in their branding. Other standout details include canvas wrapping over the midsole (a pretty unique touch), PUMA and LAAMS dubraes, cobranded tongue tags, a LAAMS logo on the backtab, and a translucent outsole that reveals a map of the Lower East Side beneath. That same map graphic appears on the insole as well.

I’ve been eyeing these on Shoebacca for a long time and finally pulled the trigger when the price dropped to $47 shipped. That’s absurdly cheap for a thoughtful collab like this and easily one of my favorite steals of 2025. I love picking up slept-on collaborations, and Puma tends to have a lot of them. The artistic concept here really sold me, especially the idea that the shoe evolves and changes as it’s worn, cut, and customized.

The shoes come in a white cobranded box and include fuzzy white laces, standard white flat laces, and a cobranded dustbag printed with instructions on how to interact with the shoe. There’s also an insert explaining that the box itself is made from uncoated watercolor paper, encouraging you to turn the packaging into a custom art piece as well.

Materials

The upper features a canvas outer layer with a quality suede hidden underneath. Overall, the shoe feels well-made and easily justifies its $120 retail as a collaboration. Puma often delivers understated designs that quietly pack in a lot of detail and quality, and this pair is a great example—simple on the surface, but far from basic.

Fit & Comfort

Fit is classic Puma Suede: true to size, old school, and a bit clunky. Comfort is decent for casual wear thanks to the insole, but it’s not an all-day shoe by modern standards. Still, for everyday lifestyle use, they wear just fine.

If these are sold out at different stores online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
