The New Balance 2002R x Shoe Palace Volcanic Rocks is part of a two-pair pack; this blue-based version and a brown counterpart – released exclusively through Shoe Palace.
While the 2002R’s history is one I’ve covered before, the quick recap is simple: originally a premium 2010 running shoe, the model was revived in 2020 with the 860v2 midsole to become one of NB’s most popular lifestyle sneakers. This collab adds a thematic touch with molten-lava graphics on the insoles to reinforce its volcanic inspiration.
I’d seen these sitting on Shoe Palace for a while and finally scooped them up for about $107 shipped during a sale. These are likely my last 2002R for the collection since I’ve got several pairs now, but the colorway is too clean to pass on – and the fact that they’re a true exclusive/collab makes them even better.
They arrive in a standard grey NB box with three sets of flat laces: dark blue, light blue, and cream.
Materials
Suede overlays with mesh underlays. While not approaching Made in USA quality, this collab still delivers solid materials – nothing ultra-plush, but definitely a step above standard GRs. The suede isn’t buttery-soft, yet it still looks and feels premium enough to fit the theme.
Fit & Comfort
Just like other 2002R pairs, these fit TTS with balanced cushioning. Comfort leans toward supportive rather than soft, making them great for all-day wear. The 860v2 tooling continues to deliver that dependable mix of stability and everyday comfort.
If these are sold out at different stores online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
