The Asics UB11-S Gel-DS Trainer 14 Coneflower is one of the more eye-catching Kiko Kostadinov–associated pairs to drop recently. Any time you see those extra letter/number designations like UB11-S, UB9-S, UB10-S, etc., you know you’re looking at one of the studio-influenced releases. This one definitely carries that elevated, experimental aesthetic.
The Gel-DS Trainer 14 originally debuted in 2009 as a performance runner, but has since returned as a retro tech trainer with modernized styling. For this version, Kiko Kostadinov Studio brought in a couple of unique tweaks: a pull tab on the tongue (not found on the standard model) and TPU paneling along the side for structure. The colorway itself has a kind of Neapolitan vibe that stands apart from the base inline releases.
I’ve been expanding my Asics lineup lately, especially within this whole Y2K/tech-runner revival, and this pair felt like the perfect addition. The color combo immediately reminded me of my Nike SB Dunk Low Stussy pair, and when Packer had them for only $90 shipped, it was an easy pickup.
The shoes come in a standard brown Asics box and are laced with speckled pink flat laces that complement the palette well.
Materials
You’re getting the usual synthetic overlays, TPU support hits, and open mesh underlays that define the Gel-DS Trainer series, and generally speaking, a lot of these tech runner Asics. It’s not a premium-materials type shoe, but the build feels solid and consistent, and at the discounted price the quality-to-cost ratio is excellent.
Fit & Comfort
They fit slightly narrow at true to size, but still comfortable for me personally; wide-footers may want to try them on first. Underfoot, the TRUSSTIC support unit and rearfoot Gel cushioning keep things balanced. The feel isn’t overly squishy or overly firm—just a great ride that works well for all-day wear.
If these are sold out at different stores online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
