The Saucony ProGrid Omni 9 Autumnal Equinox continues Saucony’s run in the Y2K mesh runner revival, and—like the ProGrid Triumph 4 Winter Solstice—lands in the “Moon Phase Pack.” Same cosmic storytelling theme, but a totally different look and model.
Originally launched in the late 2000s as a stability-focused performance runner, the Omni 9 delivered support tech ahead of its time. This “Autumnal Equinox” edition leans into seasonal visuals: more black toward the toe transitioning to rich reddish tones in the back, representing the shifting light of fall. The pack’s celestial inspiration shows up again with moon phase graphics on the right tongue and insole, while the left foot features a setting sun graphic. Flip the tongue tags and you’ll even find the Autumnal Equinox date printed inside—another thoughtful detail that ties into the cycle of seasons. Also we get some lenticular backtabs that phase from red to yellow to give that “leaves turning” effect.
I waited to get a colorway in this model that really grabbed me, and this was the one. These sat long enough on Saucony’s site to hit a great promo, and once the extra 25% off landed, I snagged mine for under $90. The dark-to-light colorway and themed graphics make these feel unique without going too over the top—just a fun execution of the Y2K trend. Packaging is a black Saucony Originals box with gold accents. You get red rope laces with black flecks already installed and a spare set of black oval laces.
Materials
Mesh underlays and synthetic overlays—exactly what this type of runner calls for. Not a premium materials sneaker, but the construction feels dialed in and cleaner than past Saucony retros I’ve owned. That said, the burgundy hit towards the rear of the shoe above the midsole is actually a very nice quality leather! Almost a nubuck texture to it. Anyway, at the discounted price especially, these are a great value.
Fit & Comfort
True to size with excellent comfort. Saucony retros consistently deliver when it comes to cushioning, and the Omni 9 is no different—great everyday wearability.
