Nike SB Dunk Low Arts-Rec Review

Updated July 25, 2025 by Anthony

The Nike SB Dunk Low Arts-Rec is a San Diego-inspired collab with Arts-Rec Skateshop, pulling heavy influence from the SD Zoo and Balboa Park. Nike SB loves a good story-driven collab, and this pair goes all-in on the theme with plenty of animal references throughout.

You’ve got panther print overlays, animal print insoles, and even special graphics on the inside of the tongue tags — the left features a safari hat, the right an animal tooth graphic, each stamped with “Do Not Tap On Glass.” The details continue with “Arts” on the left heel tab and “Rec” on the right instead of the usual Nike branding. Translucent outsoles reveal more custom touches: “SD Arts~Rec San Diego California” text and a little location pin graphic peek through underneath. There’s also a subtle “For Recreational Use” stamped in white on the right shoe’s outer rear panel. Finally, we get an Easter egg underneath the insoles on the Zoom Air pod: a small graphic depicting a lion and rhino with some birds!

These dropped alongside some similarly themed SB Trainers, and I was a bit on the fence since I already own the “Safari” SB Dunks. But the mix of materials, the unique story, and the SD Zoo tie-in eventually won me over. I scored these for retail off Recess Board Shop’s site.

These come packaged in the white Quickstrike box with custom animal-print paper. You also get 5 (!) lace options — SB laces in orange, pink, black, white, and olive, each with contrasting animal-print aglets.

Materials

A nice mix here: the overlays use that classic rough-textured safari print suede/leather. The pink hits come in smooth suede/nubuck, while the green quarter panel uses a tumbled leather (with a soft nubuck type feel) that adds a little extra texture and ties into the animal theme nicely. Solid quality throughout for a QS release.

Fit & Comfort

As usual with SB Dunk Lows, I went up half a size. Standard SB fit here — snug thanks to the padding but fine once broken in. Comfort is typical for a Dunk, fine for casual wear but nothing extraordinary.

If these are sold out at different stores online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
