Nike Air 180 University Blue & Hyper Pink Review

Updated April 12, 2025 by Anthony

This model doesn’t always get the spotlight like its Air Max siblings, but it deserves a second look. Especially the Nike Air 180 University Blue & Hyper Pink colorway. Originally designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield and released back in 1991, the Air 180 is famous for its visible 180-degree Air unit that wraps beneath the heel.

Nike brought some welcome upgrades to this year’s retros, including a larger Air unit and a sleeker overall shape that’s closer to the original ‘91 releases. For longtime fans of the model, it’s a return to form.

The colorway is super dope here! The University Blue base pops against hits of Hyper Pink, giving off serious retro vibes. Some folks have pointed out the similarities to the Run The Jewels SB Dunk Low, and honestly, I can see it. Whether intentional or not, that homage adds a little extra cool factor.

I’d been itching to get another pair of 180s back into the rotation, and this one sealed the deal. I scooped them up on sale from Grinmore, and the price break definitely helped push me over the edge. With so many pairs looking the same these days, this colorway really stands out.

This pair comes in a special silver box with the 180 logo on it, consistent with other 180 releases this year. You also get a set of light blue laces in the box.

Materials

Let’s set expectations here—this isn’t a premium build. Just like the OGs, the upper is made of felt and nylon/neoprene mesh, except for the thin leather swoosh. No buttery suede, no luxe leather, but that’s true to the original, and honestly, it works. The materials are lightweight and breathable, which adds to the overall comfort.

Fit & Comfort

These fit true to size and feel great on foot. The flexible upper means there’s basically no break-in period, and the 180-degree Air unit underfoot delivers classic Nike Air support. It’s a comfortable, easy wear right out of the box.

If these are sold out online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
