Nike Air Huarache Stussy Review

Updated March 29, 2021 by Anthony

I was looking back, and I haven’t reviewed a pair of this model since the “91 QS” in 2018. I struck out on these shoes on SNKRS, but still managed to find the Nike Air Huarache Stussy in Desert Ore for retail at a different online boutique. Eventually, I went back and grabbed the Dark Olive colorway as well.

The shoes are a retro of the first collab between Stussy and Nike in 2000. Huaraches are a Tinker Hatfield design, and first released in 1991 with the neoprene fit being inspired by water skiing.

I thought all hope was lost of me getting this collab, but when I saw them on sale elsewhere, I had to grab them immediately. I like these types of colorways, and these being a retro of the OG Stussy x Nike collab means they are a must have!

How Are The Materials?

The upper here is pretty much suede/nubuck and neoprene/mesh with some plastic pieces towards the heel for support. The neorprene is fine; it is what it is. I can only really comment on the nubuck being used and it is definitely soft with the slightest hint of a backstroke. Overall I’d say the materials are nice compared to other general release huaraches I’ve gotten in the past; the shoe has a premium look and feel to it even if the bulk of the upper is neoprene.

These come in the throwback reddish orange box with grey stripes on the bottom similar to the Air Max 3 retros we’ve been seeing, only regular width instead of skinny. The Desert Ore colorway ships with offwhite/cream colored flat laces while the Dark Olive come with plain white laces. The paper in the box also sports a special print pattern.

How Do They Fit?

These have a reputation for fitting small. I went a half size up and these fit comfortably snug. Underfoot these an sport encapsulated air unit with a chunky foam sole (yet still look sleek). The cushioning on these is indeed very comfy.
