Sometimes I grab other Nike Sportswear retro runners besides Air Maxes. For example, today we have the Nike Air Ghost Racer.
I grabbed the “Volt” and “Orange Peel” colorways as these seemed closest to the original colorways of the sneaker.
The Ghost Racer originally released in 1999, and these retros mark the 20th anniversary. The OGs featured a duralon midsole and Zoom Air. While these retros keep the Zoom, I’m not sure if they’re still using duralon as it is known to leave marks on the ground. The Volt pair comes with volt laces and the Orange Peel colorway comes with white. Both come in regular orange Nike Sportswear boxes.
How Are The Materials?
These have some mesh, suede, leather, plastic and rubber comprising the upper. The suede and leather is typical throwback felt suede although it is a bit softer to the touch than I thought it would be. The swoosh is leather with a shiny finish (rather than patent leather). Overall the materials are about what you’d expect from a retro runner at this price point. Unremarkable but not crazy bad either. The carbon fiber shown on the midsole and outsole is not actual carbon, it is merely painted to look like it.
How Do They Fit?
These Nike Air Ghost Racer fit great at my true Nike size of a 10 – the same size I would get in another Air Max or Jordan 1. Some have reported that these fit narrow, but that hasn’t been my experience. Whatever you get in Nike should work for these but your mileage may vary so if you have wide feet, maybe go up a half size. These are extremely lightweight for an older runner and are very comfortable on foot.
These are admittedly kind of a quirky runner but I like them! Glad to add them to the collection, especially since as of the time of this article, they are going for around half of retail.
