Nike Air Max Tailwind IV OG Volt Review

Updated March 9, 2020 by Anthony

I’ve been reviewing a number of 90s-era Air Maxes and I don’t plan on stopping! Today we’re looking at the Nike Air Max Tailwind IV OG Volt.

This is of course a retro of a shoe that dropped in 1999 and was a fairly popular addition to the Tailwind series.

The Tailwind series debuted in 1979 and has gone through several upgrades and iterations. This 1999 version draws heavily from the Air Max Plus for inspiration. This is evident in the side gradient pieces and the air bubble layout. The shoes ship with skinny white oval laces and a standard orange Nike Sportswear box.

I love this era of Nike runners. I am constantly on the lookout for cool-looking retros and even though my knowledge base isn’t the most complete, I enjoy learning about the different models as I acquire them. Overall I can recommend this model for anyone looking for a 90s runner that has it all!

How Are The Materials?

Compared to other recent Nike GR retros, the materials are a step up. Keep in mind this does not mean premium or even great, but definitely better than what I was expecting. The leather and suede used, while still fairly ordinary, does seem softer and slightly more plush than other 90s retro releases. I was pleasantly surprised by the materials on these, although not to the point of being blown away.

How Do They Fit?

These Nike Air Max Tailwind IV OG Volt are very comfortable at true size. I would get the same size in these that you would get in an Air Max or Jordan 1. These are very comfortable for old tech, albeit a little on the heavy side. The toebox of the model is naturally a bit stubby, but in my opinion not enough to warrant a reshape.
