I haven’t bought a pair of Gel Lyte Vs in over a year, but I’m finally back for this banger of a colorway, the Asics Gel Lyte V Mantle Green.
This is a basic GR that gets its name from the color scheme.
There’s not a lot going on with these in terms of features/extras. It’s just a regular release rather than a collab, and I picked up more based on the strength of the colorway. That said, the included green rope laces actually have two subtly different shades of green on them. Some orange laces were included as spares although I don’t know why they decided to make those flat laces. I would have preferred orange rope laces.
I had suddenly realized that I had sold off all my Gel Lyte Vs! I had to quickly correct this and lo and behold, this banger of a colorway drops. I’m a fan of the orange and army green colorway on a shoe and the bit of gumsole makes these look so nice in hand. Definitely going to be a release most people sleep on but I’m glad I grabbed a pair.
How Are The Materials?
With the exception of the neoprene/mesh tongue and smooth leather on the Asics stripes, these have a suede upper. The suede is in two different grains, with the area around the toecap and similar panels having a bit of a longer hair. The toebox itself and related panels have a shorter grain. Overall the texture is fairly soft with some areas being slightly rougher than they look. We definitely get the color change on these when feeling the suede. I’d say the materials are overall a 7.5-8/10 which isn’t bad for a general release pair of Asics, but not mind-blowing either.
How Do They Fit?
These Asics Gel Lyte V Mantle Green fit snug. I personally went with a half size up here. I find that the sock bootie tongue set up gives these a nice snug 1:1 fit and the shoe is overall very comfortable if you can get the sizing right.
