The Takashi 1 isn’t the only SB dunk to get the retro treatment. The Nike Dunk High SB Supa is somewhat of a retro of one of the original 3 Dunk SBs ever released.
The shoe gets its name from the Nike SB team rider Danny Supa, who helped design the original version of the colorway. The main difference between these and the OGs is the cut; these are a hightop while the OGs are a low. The spare laces included are safety orange.
Here we have a surprisingly versatile shoe. These can go with black, dark or light blue denim. I would avoid khakis with these as the shade can clash with the large amount of orange on the shoe. These definitely were made to pop on feet regardless what outfit you have on! A white, grey or navy top can help complete whatever look you started, depending on what pants you chose.
Lets face it, although older dunks might have had superior build quality, shape and materials, they tend to not stand the test of time. Older pairs of Supas often suffer from paint cracking issues and so it’s nice to be able to buy a fresh pair in this colorway. Overall I can recommend these if you like SBs and can recognize the throwback to the historic colorway.
How Are The Materials?
The materials on these are decent, but not amazing. We have a very basic smooth leather upper covering the shoe. Overall, I’m not going to go around touting the materials on these as being great, however I think they work for the shoe. I wasn’t expecting super supple and soft leather to begin with, as SB’s in general have trended towards more utilitarian/rugged materials for actual skating. Still, I don’t get a plasticky feel from the leather, so we’re at least dealing with an ok level of materials.
How Do They Fit?
These narrow-fitting Nike Dunk High SB Supa work best at true to size. I’d say these are a little more comfy than some other more recent hightops I’ve acquired, and don’t seem quite as stiff as a typical modern SB. Still, I’d assume a short break in time for these on feet before they really get comfortable for all-day wear.
