2018 Nike Dunk Low SB Takashi Review

Updated April 3, 2019 by Anthony

I thought I would never buy another new Nike SB, but here we are. The Nike Dunk Low SB Takashi 2018 is a retro of the original Takashi dunks from the silver box era.

The shoes are a teal box and come with white and black SB laces.

Pretty much an all black shoe, these work well with black, light blue or khaki denim. Throw a black hoodie or tee on and you’ve got a good basic outfit going. I’ve found skate shoes overall to work better with a more down-to-earth, low key look as opposed to cutting edge/tech wear.

I’m coming around to the idea that not all shoes need extremely buttery materials, just an appropriate level of quality for what the shoe is actually for. These are skate shoes, so the rugged uppers help the shoe to take a beating. From the point of a collector, this might not be optimal but then again, I’m collecting these based off the nostalgia, colorway and look, rather than a premium makeup.

How Are The Materials?

The materials on these are rough and rugged. The suede is definitely not buttery, but the smooth leather on much of the shoe feels decent. The leather on the toebox is straight cardboard though. The suede on the OG Tak 1s, while softer, tended to fade over time. The swoosh feels soft and unlike the older Takashis, it’s way less shiny and more of a tan with some metallic sparkle than a true gold. The previous version might have been more gold-looking, but it also can get discolored, turning green with age. My guess is Nike has redone the swoosh to stand the test of time for a bit longer.

How Do They Fit?

These Nike Dunk Low SB Takashi 2018 fit narrow and stiff, but break in pretty quickly. Overall I’d go true to your Nike size, which for me is a half size up from other brands and runners. The zoom air provides comfortable cushioning and allows for these to be worn all day without being really taxing on the feet. Lacing these loosely helps me combat the stiff toebox leather.
