Just got the Royal pair, so why not keep the party going with these Nike Air Max 1 Anniversary University Red? This is probably the most quintessential AM1 there is, and similar to other Anniversary pairs, they come in the special box with spare laces and hangtag.
For me these are much easier to wear than the Royal pair. I’ve yet to find a color combo that doesn’t work with these, which goes towards my theory that white/grey/red or black/white/red kicks are the easiest to put together into an outfit overall. Whether you pick light wash, dark wash, khaki, grey or black pants, these should work. Also, joggers and track pants are a great look with these as well. Keep the top to white or grey or add in some camo depending on your pants choice.
Not going to lie, these destroy my 2009 pair. Similar to Jordan 3s, 4s, etc, these benefit from having a back up pair. Time will eventually erode the midsole on my older pair, and when it does, I’ll have these classics at the ready!
How Are The Materials?
The materials are fairly decent on these for a shoe made with the felt suede. The texture is actually fairly soft on these, as opposed to earlier retros that were a bit more rough.
Overall, while my mind isn’t blown away by the suede and mesh here, the quality is overall good and I think people that normally dislike Nike for material choices will be ok with what’s going on here.
How Do The Air Max 1 Anniversary University Red Fit?
The Nike Air Max 1 Anniversary University Red fit true to size and are very comfortable at that size. Some find the fit a bit snug, but the sneakers break in fairly quickly.
I like my true size on AM1s for a snug fit, but I was able to save a bit on the price by going a half size up instead. Even with the extra room, these are still comfortable and don’t feel oversized. The shape is pretty much daggerlike out of the box, however I did a quick reshape just to get them ultra pointy.
