Nike React Element 55 Volt Review

Updated October 25, 2018 by Anthony

I found the Element 87 to be a tad flimsy but comfy and good looking, and a big question is how these Nike React Element 55 Volt compare.

The main differences seem to be mostly aesthetic with the most obvious change being a solid upper rather than clear.

I like wearing greys with this shoe, since the wolf grey is minimal and the bulk of the shoe is black and white. I would stick to pants with a narrow taper as other pants might look odd sitting on top of the shapely yet frail tongue.

While obviously a takedown from the Element 87, these make better day to day shoes as you don’t have to worry about people seeing what socks you’re wearing and the colorway is mostly black. The materials are nothing exciting, however the shoe has it where it counts: the cushioning. If you want a comfortable shoe with Nike that closely competes with Boost cushioning, look no further!

How Are The Materials?

The upper quality is definitely nothing to write home about and the shoe’s biggest flaw. The upper is some kind of synthetic mesh type material. The slightly nicer suede and leather bits on the 87 are gone here and the most we get is some felt-like suede and a small hit of thin leather on the eyelets. In attempts to make these lightweight, the tongue and most of the upper is super thin. This makes for a comfortable, but insubstantial shoe. This can be seen as a positive or negative depending on what you want out of the shoe, but the quality overall is nothing premium.

How Do They Fit?

The Nike React Element 55 Volt fit true size and are very comfortable at that size. The comfort level is very high thanks to that React cushioning in the midsole. This is the one area where the shoe is on par with the 87.
