Air Jordan 5 Grape Review

Updated February 10, 2018 by Anthony

I wore a 2006 retro of these a lot! Once the air bubble fogged up, I was glad I had this newer pair of Air Jordan 5 Grape on ice, ready to UNDS! The shoe is based on an original pair of V’s and gets its name from the colorway. An easy way to tell between retros is the blue tint to the icy outsole (or lack thereof).

These are surprisingly versatile. The teal and purple aren’t so present on the shoe that they can’t be matched up. An easy way to go would be some dark or black denim and a grey top. For a more 90s vibe, try some lighter jeans or maybe even a track suit / warmups.

If you don’t have a retro or OG of this colorway and you are a fan of 5s, I would get on that ASAP! Also, if you like grape color combos, this is a good look. If you want comfort and durability, you might look elsewhere. The Grape V used to be a grail for most, but after this retro, its popularity plummeted and now these are fairly common. I believe overproduction and a lack of improvement quality-wise are what hurt the shoe. Still, tough to go wrong with this color combo!

How Are The Materials?

The leather on these is thick and stiff. The shoe overall is ok for what it is, the leather is smooth but not shiny. Nothing to write home about but nothing to get disappointed over either.

How Do They Fit?

Newer retros of the Air Jordan 5 Grape fit a little snug but can work at true size. As compared with older retros where the fit is more forgiving.

These are an ok level of comfort, and I lace them loose to combat the stiffness. It’s a Jordan retro, so we should face facts that comfort isn’t really why I buy these.
