Saucony Shadow 5000 Strange Fruit Orange Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

More Shadow 5ks! Only this time, fancier! These Saucony Shadow 5000 Strange Fruit Orange are part of a collaboration with Pusha T’s clothing company Play Cloths.

Saucony and Play Cloths are no strangers to creating hot kicks, and these are a prime example, releasing in a pack alongside grey and purple pairs of 5000s.

These definitely up the ante on a standard pair of 5Ks with the star perforations around the toebox, print on the ankle liner, and Play Cloths branding on the tongue tag, box and insole.

How Are The Materials?

Unlike previous pairs of Shadow 5000s I’ve reviewed, the materials on these are nice! Normally, I would just accept the less-than-stellar suede on a pair of 5ks as par for the course, but in this case the upper is a thick suede. While it’s not the butteriest suede I’ve ever felt in my life, it is way beyond anything on a pair of GR Shadow 5000s. The lushness is there (to some degree) on these!

How Do They Fit?

The Saucony Shadow 5000 Strange Fruit Orange fit true to size and are quite comfortable. I found the shoe to be a tiny bit stiffer than your average pair of Shadow 5ks. This went away within a couple minutes of walking around in these. Also, the toebox isn’t quite as pointy as a regular pair of 5000s. I think the thicker/more premium materials are the cause of both issues, but these are minor gripes when compared to how dope this shoe is overall!
