Nike Zoom Tre AD McFly Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

I mostly cover retros on this blog, but Nike is still a performance footwear brand. The Nike Zoom Tre AD McFly is an example of one of Nike SB’s many attempts at creating a technical skate shoe.

The shoe gets it’s nickname from it’s resemblance to the Air Mag, famously worn in the movie Back to the Future II by the lead character Marty McFly. One unique feature of this shoe is the glow in the dark swoosh.

These aren’t the best looking shoes to wear casually, but the color scheme is pleasant and easy to pair with an outfit. Today I’m wearing some beige colored shorts, but these also pair well with khakis or denim. I’d avoid medium wash jeans with these and stick to either black or very light denim. As far as a top, grey works well but a white tee will also look great!

These definitely look and fit a little odd for someone like myself that doesn’t skate and just rocks kicks casually. However, the colorway is fire and the shoe is at this point fairly rare. Thus, these are a great collector’s shoe. If you are an SB enthusiast, it might very well be worth your time tracking a pair of these down.

How Are The Materials?

These are a gold box release. The toebox appears to be made out of rubber, while the darker greys are leather and the lighter greys and eyelet area are suede. Overall the materials seem solid with the leather being stiff and thick and the suede being soft if not particularly lush.

How Do They Fit?

The Nike Zoom Tre AD McFly fit snug. I bought these a half size down due to availability and I kind of regret it. The shoes are purposefully stiff so although they are not painful to wear, they aren’t exactly comfortable either. I suppose at true size or a half size up, these would be way easier to sport around for long periods of time. Also, if the shoes are skated they might loosen up; after all that’s what Nike made these for.
