Nike Air Raid University Red Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The Nike Air Raid is a basketball shoe designed for outdoor use by Tinker Hatfield, way back in 1992.

Some stand out features that make the shoe unique are obviously the straps, the “AIR RAID” alongside the Velcro strap lockdown area and “FOR OUTDOOR USE ONLY” printed on the back. This particular retro colorway really pops in person and gives the shoe a definite rugged look.

The materials are pretty much suede/nubuck, mesh and leather and these come with black laces with special black plastic aglets. As with a lot of Nike Sportswear releases, the material quality here is not the best. However, it gets the job done.

With respect to comfort, these are fairly decent for a retro basketball sneaker from this time. Of course they feel huge on feet, given the extra height and padding used. But that’s part of the charm for these!
