Nike Air Max Penny All-Star Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

Penny Hardaway sported this blacked-out Nike Air Max Penny All-Star for the 1996 all star game, helping the Eastern conference to a win. These have Penny line’s details such as the crackle on the swoosh, the Cent logo in the back and Penny’s signature on the insole

I’ve always been a fan of the Penny sigs and this pair is no exception. I like how the silver swoosh contrasts against the mostly black uppers with some blue hits and how the striped tongue adds some pop to the shoe, with the black rope laces completing the look. The shoes definitely look unique on foot, even for a mostly black shoe.

The shoe upper is comprised of suede/nubuck. The quality here is serviceable, although nothing spectacular for a Nike Sportswear retro basketball release.

These are fairly comfortable kicks for some retros, but don’t expect anything special as far as cushioning. Old tech is never going to match something newer, however at least the fit isn’t uncomfortably snug at true to size like some other retros in the line.
